Fall 2008 Workshop
"Magnify
Your Image With ARSA-ST"
The "Magnify Your Image With ARSA-ST" Workshop" was held at Conway Regional Medical Center, Conway, on Saturday, November15, 2008. Our guest speakers were Dr. Jeff Marotte from Conway Urology, Intuitive Systems representative Walt Bryde, and Stryker representative Chris Smith. a. A big THANK YOU to each one for giving up their time.
There were more than 20 attendees who traveled from Harrison, Booneville, Bentonville, Little Rock, Cabot, Sherwood, Beebe, Greenbriar, Conway, and North Little Rock, and 6 ceu's were earned.
A special welcome is extended to the class of Surgical Tech students from North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, Harrison, who attended the workshop along with their Program Instructors, Charlotte Stewart & Lita Parton.
Dr. Marotte gave a very informative talk about prostate cancer. He described the different ways of diagnosis and explained the Gleason score system used to stage the cancer. He went over several treatment options including radical prostatectomy using the daVinci Robot.
Walt Bryde from Intuitive followed Dr. Marotte's theme and talked to us more in depth about using the instruments for the daVinci robot along with other technical advice relevant to the scrub tech's roll in the surgery. We were also fortunate to have a hands on workshop in actually operating the new daVinci robot owned by Conway Regional Medical Center.
Chris Smith from Stryker gave us a demonstration on their endoscopic equipment. Not only did he explain how to set the tower, camera and scope up, he also had us using the instruments as a surgeon would in a box he very cleverly built.
Breakfast and lunch were provided courtesy of ARSA-ST, and of course we had door prizes and a 50/50 drawing.
Hats off to Amber Shapter, our treasurer, for putting this workshop together. We learned a lot, played a little, and enjoyed sharing ideas and stories with our peers.
